Solomon Alabi back to Erie Bay Hawks

Solomon Alabi (216-C-88, college: Florida St.) is assigned back to D-League. The Toronto Raptors reassigned the Nigerian rookie centre to the Erie Bay Hawks. Solomon Alabi appeared in nine games for the Raptors this season. He tallied 0.4 points and 0.4 boards per appearance. In D-League Solomon Alabi played 11 games this season. He tallied 8.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for the Bay Hawks. Solomon Alebi played for the Nigerian U19 National Team at the 2007 World Championship. The centre notched 9.2 points, 7.8 boards and 2.8 blocks in Novi Sad. Solomon Alabi graduated from the Florida State University in 2010. He was named into ACC All-Defensive Team last season.

DStv PBL: Pillars ends Kada invicibility, Hoopers makes it 1-1 on road

Defending champion of the DStv Premier Basketball League, Kano Pillars basketball club last weekend proved that its the true champion of the Nigeria league when it ended the invicibility of reigning Savannah conference leader, Kada Stars basketball club of Kaduna.

Kada Stars, host of the week-5 high-profile pairing lost to the visitor by as much as 22-point margin of 67-89 points with Pillars being the only team in the conference yet to taste defeat, 2009/2010 runner-up Royal Hoopers basketball club of Port Harcourt makes it a 1-1 record on its mission to Lagos losing to Islanders basketball club of Lagos by 73-70 points but woke up to defeat Dodan Warriors basketball club of Lagos by 88-87 points to move to the second spot in the Atalntic conference with a 4-1 record.

In other week-5 games decided last weekend Comets basketball club continue its fine run in the Atlantic conference beating Police Baton basketball club in a local derby by 73-58 points.

The former Nigeria league champion took the first, third and fourth quarters by 17-08, 25-12 and 23-18 points respectively losing the second quarter to the Baton by 08-20 points. Yelwa Hawks basketball club of Bauchi recorded an away win over Tapgun Rockets basketball club of Jos by 76-68 points; Nigeria Immigration basketball club of Kano pipped visiting Plateau Peaks basketball club of Jos by 73-61 points for its first win of the season while Bauchi Nets basketball club walked-over Niger Potters basketball club of Minna.

Eurobasket, SuperSport man gets FIBA Africa Zone-3 position

FIBA Africa Zone-3 recently constituted its Executive body to run the affairs of the zone until the next congress of the regional body in 2014.

The zone headed by Nigeria Muktar Adamu Khaleh as President, Republic of Benin Coffi Tonon Pierre as Secretary General, Nigeria Segun Ikuesan as Administrative Secretary, Joseph Grard Amon of Cote dIvoire is to over-see the zone Technical Commission, the Competition Commission will be under one time president of the zone Mamadou Belem from Burkina Faso, Ghana Gamal Idrisu is incharge of Junior/ Development Council, Togo Body Lawson Nadouvi heads the Medical Council, with Liberia Pratt Fred taking charge of the Media Council while Patricia Lorougnon from Cote dIvoire is a Co-opted member.

The FIBA Africa Zone-3 President, Khaleh was elected last July during the Congress of the Africa ruling body FIBA Africa in Bamako, Mali, Khalh otherwise known as Malone is to preside over the Zone in all its activities.

The Zone-3 president holds several position both in Nigeria and at the continental levels, in Nigeria he hold such sensitive post as the 1st Vice-President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, chairman of the Nigeria Technical Commission and also heads the Nigeria DStv Premier League Board and a FIBA Africa certified Match Commissioner.

The Zone Secretary General, Pierre is the Secretary General of the Benin Basketball Federation and recently qualified as FIBA Africa Match Commissioner. The Administrative Secretary, Ikuesan is the Media Officer of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Correspondent for FIBA Africa and FIBA World and the continent leading correspondent for the world leading basketball website eurobasket.com and a Commentator with Africa leading pay-television SuperSport and Media/ Communications crew member of FIBA Africa Secretariat.

Amon is a certified FIBA World Match Commissioner and key figure in Africa basketball, Belem is the zone former president and a FIBA World Match Commissioner while Idrisu is the Vice-President of Ghana Basketball Federation and one-time international referee for both continent and the world, Dr. Nadouvi is the President of Togo Basketball Federation while Fred is the Secretary General of Liberia Basketball Federation and Lorougnon a former national team player of Cote dIvoire and now works at the Secretariat of FIBA Africa.

The Zone made up of eight West Africa countries (Benin Republic; Burkina Faso; Cte d'Ivoire; Ghana; Liberia; Niger Republic; Nigeria and Togo) is saddled with the responsibility of developing, promoting the slamming and dunking so as to complimenting the role of FIBA Africa
